People love the status quo. People love the political status quo more than anything else. It makes everyone near the top rich, secure, and unaccountable. Over the years, the political status quo perpetuated by both American major parties has been perfected to such an extent that it started benefiting fringe players as well.
Among these, perhaps the most surprising beneficiaries have been the members of the press.
It took some time, but the huge majority of political journalists and commentators got so close to the politicians and other players in the political arena that they started contributing to this status quo club even more than the politicians themselves.
This club possesses some very clear rules – always remain in unison, always go hard on anyone new and never call for any real change (phony change is okay, as Obama’s proved again and again).
THE ultimate rule of this club, however, is that you do not disturb the status quo.
This way, a politician who might think about making a real change can never become more than an idealistic fool. The media soon paints him or her as something of a Don Quixote who has no place in “real” American politics.
Similarly, if a journalist, blogger or commentator starts asking tricky questions or connecting dots that shouldn’t be connected, they are ostracized both by the political players and the media.
You do not disturb the status quo.
Donald Trump is someone who disturbs the status quo.
The reason why he has been able to do this so effectively is the combination of money, previous success and the downfall of the Republican Party.
He has the money that allowed him to run despite status quo proponents trying to hold him down. His previous success gave him the know-how and certain connections that allowed him to circumvent certain obstacles presented by the status quo ecosystem. Finally, the GOP, in its sorry state these last few years, made him the best candidate despite the incessant attacks from other politicians and especially the media.
Which brings us, finally, to the subject at hand – the way the media have been assailing Donald Trump for months now.
The media have actually been on the forefront of this status quo preservation from the very beginning – the moment Trump announced he would run in the Republican primaries. Various media outlets ridiculed his decision, tore down every one of his statements and tried to paint him as a fool.
Luckily, the Republican (and not only Republican) voters saw through their lies and they still nominated the only candidate who might disband this merry little club and do something to help the Average American.
However, it wasn’t until Trump was announced as the Republican nominee in the 2016 Presidential Election that the gates of media hell really flung open. At that moment, it became obvious just how much the media love the status quo.
In case you haven’t figured it out for yourself, the honorary members of the status quo club have been the members of the Obama-Clinton Clique who have been driving this country into the ground for the last 8 years.
It is, therefore, no wonder that the media have been doing everything in their power to keep this same clique on top by favoring Hillary.
These days, they are trying to construct this reality in which Donald Trump supposedly called for violence toward Hillary Clinton in his speech in North Carolina.
He said the following, and this is a quote:
“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, and if she gets to pick — if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”
Nowhere in these three sentences is there a suggestion of violence. He simply stated that people who are serious about upholding the Second Amendment should exercise their political power as the citizens of this country and vote against Hillary Clinton.
The only way someone can conceivably mistake this for a call for violence is if this someone believes that the people who support the Second Amendment are inherently incapable of anything else but violence.
This says much more about this someone than it does about the people Donald Trump addressed in his speech.
However, do a bit of research online, try to find a few publications that may have been respected decades ago and you will find the same thing repeated over and over again – Donald Trump wants people with guns to kill Hillary Clinton.
That is the kind of media onslaught that one can expect when they try to disturb the status quo.
You do not disturb the status quo!
